How this is calculated
  • Total head = total bore depth (or suction lift for a dam, river or tank) + elevation + pipe friction + outlet pressure.
  • Outlet pressure depends on the application: 100 kPa for filling a tank, 250 kPa for irrigation (1 kPa = about 0.102 m of head).
  • Pipe friction: Hazen-Williams on the pipe's actual bore, with no extra allowance for fittings. HDPE is PE100 PN12.5 (C = 150), for example 20 mm has a 17.0 mm bore. PVC is PN12 (C = 150); 80 and 100 mm bores are approximate.
  • Sun hours: NASA POWER year-round average 2001–2025, for a north-facing panel tilted at your latitude, on a 1° grid (about 100 km). Your postcode uses its nearest grid point; large postcodes use their lowest one.
  • Flow needed = water per day ÷ (year-average sun hours × 60). Output is lower in winter, when there are fewer sun hours.
  • Kit performance: flow-at-head figures from each kit's sizer figures in our store, supplied by Land & Water and the pump makers. Read between figures, never beyond them. Below the lowest figure the flow at that figure is used (never more).
  • Head allowance: a kit can still be shown if your total head is up to 5% past its last published figure. It is marked "Near its limit", uses the flow at that last figure (shown as "up to"), and may deliver less. Our team confirms these.
  • Each kit's working point is where its curve meets your system: total head rises with flow because of pipe friction. Kits are listed closest fit first.
  • Daily output = working flow × 60 × year-average sun hours for your postcode.
  • Bore yield (if given) is checked against the flow needed and each kit's working flow. Kits are not hidden; a note is shown.
  • Static water level is for information only and is sent with your quote request.

Results are indicative and for selection only. Bore yield, water quality, cable runs and site conditions all affect the final choice, so every system is confirmed by our team before purchase.
